Can I Upload 23andme Dna Results to Ancestry Reddit

23andme vs Ancestry (Deoxyribonucleic acid testing)

I've taken the Beginnings test (along with my parents and blood brother) so that we could hopefully place my male parent's bio parents.

I've noticed a lot of people take both the Ancestry and 23 DNA tests and I was wondering if anyone could explicate why and what the pro/cons of each are?

Does 23 also take repositories of information like Ancestry does or is strictly DNA information/info?

Is at that place a benefit of doing both tests?

In order of size of lucifer databases: AncestryDNA, 23andMe, My Heritage, Family Tree DNA, Gedmatch, Living Dna.

They buy both Ancestry Dna and 23andMe because you can't upload to either one. The goal is to get in all match databases because someone could test with any site.

Okay thanks for the info, this makes sense. Since nosotros already have lots of close matches on Ancestry, I don't think we'll need to have the whole family do tests again.

I may do one on 23andme just for myself just to be able to compare the ethnicity results, since I've seen variations between the platforms, and get from there.

Proficient to know. While we're able to place his bio parents via Ancestry and made contact on his maternal side with his aunt, at that place's been minimal responses other than the initial acknowledgement that she had always suspected there was a baby. So we don't have any information wellness-wise, and then possibly this could exist useful.

Beginnings gave me more than matches, merely 23andMe seems more useful (accurate maybe?) for showing where one's ancestors are from. YMMV merely in my case, I know all my Eastern European ancestry comes from my very Polish grandmother. Ancestry gave me a hand-wavy multi-state region; 23 denoted very specific Polish voivodeships in lodge of conviction (and that was the extent of where the results said my Eastern European roots originated). It did the same for other regions of Europe/UK for me also. Maybe they aren't completely accurate only I'll have any clues for brick walls!

Oh cheers good to know! I'd love to have more data for backtracking some of the expressionless ends or potentially to help link some theories I have. Fantabulous, I call back y'all've convinced me to try 23andme likewise.

I only tested at 23andme considering Ancestry doesn't ship to France.

I know you can use a forwarding service simply I don't feel like going through all of that I simply wanted something that would send here.

I did testing in both places.

Ancestry has the largest DNA database simply no health info.

23andme has health info but a small DNA database and many people there are non interested in genealogy

If you're looking for your father'southward bio parents you may want to upload your DNA kits to gedmatch. My Heritage is worth considering too.

Okay thanks for that. I've heard of gedmatch but haven't actually looked I I it much, so I'll practise that. Is there any benefit/advantage of uploading both Ancestry and 23andme results to gedmatch?

Greetings. I did the AncestryDNA testing in 2017 and I have quite a few close matches (east.g. second and 3rd cousins; my mom has a first cousin once removed). However every bit there is no chromosome browser I have no idea how I friction match these people (i.e., which chromosomes we friction match on). Many of my shut matches take no trees, express trees or they don't even respond to inquires. The advantage 23andme has over Ancestry is that they have both chromosome painting and chromosome browser and I have learned more with these tools as people are generally reluctant to upload their file to gedmatch which offers the same tools.

Cheers for sharing! I recollect I'll start by uploading to gedmatch. Since I got both my parents to do the Ancestry test, I'chiliad able to see relatively easily how I match with people and can put the pieces together. Especially on my mother'southward side, it's pretty easy, every bit there are iii of her cousins who beloved genealogy who take massive trees with (more or less) good sources. I basically am revalidating their stuff every bit I build!
